Talimena Drive

Addie knows that you have to take Talimena Drive to get from Talihina, Oklahoma to Mena, Arkansas. She takes it every chance she gets! It's not called Oklahoma State Highway 1 fer nuttin!

The Ouachita Mountains are a fold-and-thrust mountain range which were formed when rocks from the south where shoved hundreds of miles over the rocks in the north. So, basically ... this area was once part of a deep sea floor in Texas and as high as the Rocky Mountains. Over time, the mountains have simply eroded away ... but still plenty beautiful, especially in autumn.

The sun wasn't setting at this vista, but Addie still enjoyed the view.

Addie could still see parts of the Old Military Road. She was thrilled to be in a place where Colonel Robert E. Lee, General Zachary Taylor, Ulysses S. Grant, Jefferson Davis, and Sam Houston allegedly travelled.
